Using a bunch of custom software, I made a video showing the contacts from the 2025 CQP, a 30-hour contest, in a roughly 12 minute video. The video makes use of a lot of the techniques I’ve learned while writing code for azimuthal maps such as:
- Determining the location of the sun using techniques from Astronomical Algorithms by Jean Meeus.
- Transforming sphere data to flat projections such as the Winkel-Tripel map projection.
- Calculating great circle paths.
- Working with high resolution pictures of the Earth from NASA.
